Prosperity

One of the biggest problems in the Christian church today is the prominence of the "Prosperity Gospel." This "gospel" is one where some Christians think that because they love God, everything in their lives will be perfect. These people believe that they will drive nice cars, live in big houses, and be healthy at all times. According to the article on christianpost.com, people believe that their struggles will be minimized and their pleasures will be maximized.

This type of "gospel" goes completely against what Scripture says about having a relationship with God. Nowhere is the Bible does it say that if you love God you will have a perfect life. In fact, it is sometimes just the opposite. God tells us that we WILL have sufferings in this life, but that true joy is found in Jesus. 1 Peter 2:20-21 says, "But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps." As believers, we must suffer and endure hardships if we are to become like our Savior.

Sometimes people forget that we were not created by God for Him to meet our every need. Instead, we were created FOR God to worship and serve Him.

  1. This is so true! Jesus said: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33 (NIV).

We have been given a gift that far outweighs any of the trouble on earth. We have been blessed with the gift of everlasting life through Jesus Christ. In actuality, the "Prosperity Gospel" sells us short. We become so focused on desiring the gifts of this world (weath, fame, friendship, etc), we forget the true treasure that is already ours.
