The Great Big Universe Out There

I have always loved anything to do with space and planets, and stars. I love Space. Last year, my grandmother sent me this video link from Youtube. It's a 5 Part "lecture" (I use that term loosely because I don't know what else to call it) from Louie Giglio called Indescribable. He uses science (astronomy, planets, galaxies, etc.) to show use who God is.

In these videos, Giglio shows us God's general revelation in a huge way. To me, it screams God's presence in our universe and says, "God is huge." I have to the best of my ability, tried to link all 5 videos on here because I think this is truly an amazing speech that you and everyone else in the world should stop and watch. This video completely changed my perspective of myself, and of God and his creations!

This video left me with the feeling that I am horribly small, yet despite all of God's beautiful creation, he chose to make us--human beings-- in his own image and allowed us to have a relationship with Him, called us by name to be his son and daughter's. The thought is truly incredible that such a huge God would want an intimate relationship with us.

  1. Katie, I agree with you that when I watched those videos, it became obvious that God was the creator of the universe and it put me in awe of God's power. Even when I watch a sunset or look at the mountains, it is so obvious to me that this world must have been created by an intelligent and powerful being. But I wonder how much of that "obvious"-feeling is derived from my own biases and preconceived notions. I was taught that God created the world and so looking around only supports that in my mind. But if I had been trained to see that everything was an accident or a result of science's probabilities, I do not think that it would be so obvious to me that a God created life. In fact, it might cause me to worship science or luck.

  2. That is true, I also was raised in a christian home and to tell you the truth I have never gone to a public school, and I have hardly known people who are truly atheists. So i don't know exactly what Paul says when in Romans 1:19 that no man is without excuse. Because I was brought up in believing that God created the heavens and the earth. But I know from the star and the sky and the fact that there are billions an billions of galaxies that we have yet to discover that there has to be something higher then me out there and that this couldn't have happened by chance. it's just to wonderful to deny it. Thanks for you Comment. It gave me something to think about!

  3. The sermon that you mention Katie is a great eye-opener to understanding how marvelous our God is. Christians can easily forget how big God is and all that He created. It is also very important to understanding our worth in His eyes because He created us for His glory, but yet we are so small compared to the universe. Carmen, I like what you said about growing up with the knowledge that God created everything. The Bible clearly says in Romans that all mankind are left without an excuse for knowing Him as our Lord and Savior. It is true that nature is a part of His general revelation that is revealed to all mankind, but how many unreached people look around them and say, "There obviously is a God who created this!" Christians are definitely biased when speaking about this because we know the truth already. One can only speculate about the answer because there are definitely people who reject the notion of God and end up praising science and evolution for the world around us. Great post!
